Another boring International weekend.‏

I have to say I'm not a fan of the International breaks, especially for friendlies.

It's unfair because let's face it, if it's a friendly, most players somehow get an injury and can't play. In theory then it's the 'B' side that most Managers play but it's not out of choice; they can't choose his best side because players are just not there.
Just watch how many of them 'injured' players play next week when it's back to domestic football; and what a great recovery they make!
It upsets the whole league schedule; more games rammed in over Christmas; like it's not expensive enough as it is! But let's remember International friendlies are not important, so why not do it midweek?

'In the early days of association football, friendly matches (or "friendlies") were the most common type of match. However since the development ofThe Football League in England in 1888, league tournaments became established, in addition to lengthy cup tournaments. By the year 2000, national leagues were established in almost every country, as well as regional leagues for lower level teams, thus the significance of friendlies has seriously declined since the 19th century.'

Then there's the playoffs for World Cup places; that should be one game in a neutral country. Are we not always told footballers need rest? Playing an extra game where there is no need at all.
Wouldn't fans want to see just one 'winner takes it all game'?
It would cost to travel but I'm sure the countries' associations could help out; after all they will make money out of it especially if their team win!
But now its on a Friday night and not Saturday afternoon, it's just a strange night to have it but it has its advantages.
Lower league attendances do go up and the players get nearly twenty four hours more rest but its still a strange night to have it.
England play Chile; a team that hasn't qualified for the World Cup. So what will be the motivation for their players? If Chile do win will Hodgson blame his lack of players to pick from?
The game on Tuesday will be different; I doubt there is such a thing as a friendly with Germany. National pride is at stake and the rivalry since nineteen sixty six is just superb.
Should be good to see who both teams field; neither will want to give anything away ahead of Rio next year.
A midweek friendly and a one off play off game; makes sense in every way.
Sadly it's always the fans that are thought of last. I just wish they were consulted about it and their voice be heard instead of the people at the top making decisions and the fans having to follow suit.
