Are England relying to much on one player?

19/11/2013 10:31

Roy Hodgson done his best on Friday night with, and with respect, a second string team. It's just amazing how quick the injuries that kept a few out against Chile have healed up in time to face Germany. It shouldn't matter who the opposing team are, you should always want to play for your country, no matter what!

I understand that squad players need to get a game and its better to play them against Chile than the Germans, it was the players pulling out that was the concern. They were almost saying, 'I don't fancy this game but I'll be in the next one,' if that is the case they should be dropped as its a team game!

Andros Townsend is having the time of his life and in the form of his career; showing hard work and believing in yourself and the coaching staff pays off. My question is; Are England relying on the Tottenham man to much?

A few years ago in a game that Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp was playing in, the commentator said, "Form is temporary, class is permanent," and  there never was never a better saying for the classy Dutchman. Now he was in his thirties by this point while Townsend in in his early twenties so a long time to go before they can be compared.

What is worrying is the fact that the skilled winger, great with both feet, might lose that form before Rio. Then what is the plan?

  James Milner or Theo Wallcott?

Again with respect, not the same sort of players at all.

You look at the teams that are going to the World Cup and they have strength in depth, Friday showed England haven't. That is a worry with only a few months left till the biggest football tournament in the world!

'England suffered when they were caught cold by Chile and they will feel the heat tonight when Germany roll into town.

Roy Hodgson’s under strength side was second best at Wembley on Friday and another evening of toil is on the cards against the best from the Bundesliga.

The Germans have scored in 37 of their last 38 matches, including 32 times in their last ten games, and look far stronger than the Three Lions, even though manager Joachim Low is resting key players.

Germany have averaged more than three goals per game since the 2012 Euros and there could be trouble if Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has not learned lessons from his spell on the bench with club and country.'

The simple fact is not enough English players are playing in the Premier League!

That is one thing the England Manager can't get the blame for, that he doesn't pick players from the Championship who are 'on form' is another article all together.

Finally, a fact that seventeen of the German squad have started in the Champions league this season is in itself a great stat; compare that to England who've had seven! It tells its own story.

If England come away with a draw it can be seen as a plus; a heavy defeat and Roy really has got his work cut out!

This is tonight's team; is it good enough to beat Germany?

Hart, Walker, Smalling, Jagielka, Cole, Gerrard, Cleverley, Townsend, Rooney, Lallana, Sturridge.

We'll just have to wait and see.
