Defoe's a European starter as Spurs look to go through‏

Jermaine Defoe at least knows he'll get a game of football on a Thursday night; he's an automatic starter in the Europa League games and is now Spurs' leading goalscorer in Europe of all time.
The former West Ham front man just keeps doing what he's done his entire career; score goals. Many players are called 'goal machines' but in this case it really is true and he's done it at every club he's played for.
It seems Tottenham Manager AVB has got the mix right with his squad; rotating his players and resting them.
But is Defoe happy about being a bit part player?
I mean that respectfully.
The England forward is thirty three now and needs regular football for two reasons; to keep fit and most importantly it's World Cup year.
Reports coming out of White Hart Lane say contracts talks have broken down and for once I doubt it's money!
I can see the goal machine finding fresh pastures in January just to keep his World Cup dream alive; but for now he'll give one hundred per cent for Spurs and I fancy he'll be amongst the goals tonight.

'A fortnight on from our hard-fought 2-0 victory in Tiraspol, Moldovan champions FC Sheriff travel to the Lane for an 8.05pm kick-off in Matchday Four.'

In form and top of the league again domestically, Sheriff impressed that night but Andre is determined to reach the last 32 with a victory on home soil.

“We had the idea of trying to achieve qualification in these two games against FC Sheriff, it’s an opportunity for us to finish the job and I think we have to take it,” he said.

“The players are very motivated to achieve qualification as soon as possible as well.

"We look good as a team right now and hopefully that confidence will be turned into a result.”

What must be pleasing is the way the defence has played on the European stage; they go looking for a sixth clean sheet tonight.

I can't see any reason why Spurs cannot win this competition: they certainly have the squad to do it.
It remains to be seen if the man that has scored more goals in Europe than any other Tottenham player will be there to lift the trophy.
